Led by two experts, absolutely passionate about all things sewing…

I have been sewing for 30 years, I’m mostly self taught but have taken a couple of short courses. I started with soft furnishings, cushions, curtains and blinds. I soon moved onto creating fancy dress outfits for my daughter when she was little and then dressmaking for myself. I learned so much through trial and error, sewing became my passion and my sanctuary. I specialised in Bridal sewing for a while and I love pattern cutting and the creations you can make with a bit of imagination and origami!! I love to teach others and share my passion for all things sewing. It’s so wonderful to see the pleasure others get out of sewing and creating their own clothing and textiles.

I am the founder and owner of Deb Day Sewing Room. I have created a warm and welcoming space for others to come to learn to sew, mostly for recreation. People soon discover that sewing isn’t just about sewing! It’s also about mindfulness, escapism and personal acheivment and development. I run all sorts of sewing classes and workshops from absolute beginners to more complex pattern cutting and sewing with stretch fabric. I love to take you on a sewing adventure, embracing the wonkiness along the way.

Brenda is the Director of Inkberrow Design Centre & Fashion Education Consultant. Inkberrow Design Centre (IDC) has been located in Worcestershire for 30 plus years and is one of just a handful of fashion design and craft centers outside London, that provides professional training and workshops in sewing, corsetry, fashion design and clothing construction.

Brenda – I discovered my passion for sewing at the age of ten – I was helping at a neighbour’s house after school. She was a corsetry expert and tailoress. She taught me tailoring at an early age, this means I have been sewing for over 50 years. I bought my first sewing machine with my first month’s wages when I was 16 and went on to produce pin-stripe suits in the 1970s for everybody at work. I love to engineer in cloth, tailoring is my passion.

I hold 12 City & Guilds Fashion and textile related qualifications, along with my teaching degree in adult learning. I have taught in high schools, local colleges and my passion for teaching is in Community based projects. I have run many Charity based  fashion and textiles projects across Worcestershire and Warwickshire.

We will be on hand to help you with your sewing projects when you need it, and with 80 years experience between us, we have seen it, been there and done pretty much all things sewing (and unpicking!!)

What to Expect…

Imagine your sewing machine in front of you, powered up and ready to go… your beautiful fabric, all cut out and ready to sew… you look up with a smile on your face and see lots of other sewists, with the same passion for sewing as you, needles poised, stitch ready!

Ahead of you are days full of sewing shenanigans and great company – what’s not to love?

You will arrive on Monday evening, and settle into your accommodation at the hotel or neighbouring apartments.

After a leisurely breakfast, the Sewing Room will open each day at 10am.

Deb and Brenda will help you with all your sewing needs – sharing tips and sewing secrets, and showing you the techniques you need for a beautifully finished garment.

There are no set projects, so you can bring along anything you’re already working on or try something new while you have tutors on hand to help you through

You can sew at your own pace, take as many breaks as you like, take the chance to have a wonder round and see what others are up to, share sewing tips and make friends!!

As we’re in Spain, we will be on Spanish time, so each day we will sew from 10am, at 2pm we will stop for lunch, free time and siesta.

The Sewing Room will open again at 5pm, and will be available for sewing  until 8pm then the night is your own to have dinner and relax.

On Thursday we will sew until 2pm, stop for lunch and then the rest of the day is yours… stroll along the beach, dip your toes in the sea, get to know Los Alcazares or you could even venture into historic Cartagena city for a fabulous shopping adventure.

The retreat will be held at La Encarnacion, in Los Alcazares, Spain. Situated right on the beach.

La Encarnacion is a beautiful Spanish hotel, the original thermal baths are still there to see. The rooms are decorated in the traditional style, communal areas have Spanish tiled walls and there is a central courtyard with vines and flowers growing up the iron railings to the balcony walkway.

Located on the shores of the Mar Menor, there are 7km of coastline from Los Narejos to Punta Brava, there are 7 beaches, the waters are calm and shallow with a lovely warm temperature.

We will be using the large Salon during the weekend that we will transform into a lovely sewing room, so we can set up and won’t need to pack away until we leave. You’ll have your own sewing space, but we’re together enough that we can chat as we sew.

You have a choice of accommodation.

You can choose to stay in the hotel, in a room all to yourself, with either a single or double bed. If you book a hotel bedroom, breakfast is included. Please note that the hotel bedrooms are on the 1st floor and there is no lift.

There is also an option to have a 1 bedroomed apartment all to yourself
