Sew the Deb Day Way

As well as being able to get creative and make your own clothes or accessories,  sewing is also a bit of mindful escapism, whilst you’re sewing, everything else is on hold. I am passionate about what I do and love to pass on my sewing knowledge to others. So, if you’d like to learn to sew or improve your sewing skills then you’re in the right place. Absolute Beginners Sewing

lWould you love to be able to sew but just don’t know where to start?

This class is for absolute beginners or for those of you who haven’t sewn in a while and would like to refresh your skills – want to know more? just click on the image below to book your place.

This class goes right back to basics – you will learn from scratch, all about the sewing machine and how to make it go! You will then make a couple of lovely items to take home with you – what’s not to love?

Once you’ve had a great time sewing in the Absolute Beginners Class, you’ll be able to progress to some Beginners Sewing projects… fancy having a go at a wrap skirt or an easy top? Or how about some very stylish PJ’s? There’s also a beginners dressmaking course or maybe you’d prefer learning to quilt.

Beyond Beginners Sewing

So you’ve made a couple of easier projects and you’re ready to take your sewing to the next level – Beyond Beginners will help you to do just that!

These classes and workshops are designed to increase your sewing skills and learn some great techniques that you can then use for other projects.

Would you like to be able to fit a zip, attach bias-binding, make buttonholes or create lovely pockets? Well there’s a class here just for you!

Sewing With Stretch

Do you struggle to sew with stretch and find yourself shying away from it?

I will show you how to get great results using stretch fabric, you will learn some really useful techniques so you can sew stretch with confidence!

Join us on this Stretch Dress Making Course and learn to sew your staple wardrobe pieces using stretch fabric and an overlocker.

We will work through 3 projects, a Billie sweater from Tillie and the Buttons, the gorgeous Georgie Dress from Sew Over It, and everyones favourite – a pair of leggings. You will learn some core dress making skills including: seams and seam finishes, hems, gathers, set-in sleeves, neck bands, cuffs and much more!

Pattern Cutting

Are you fed up with making clothes that don’t fit properly?

Would you love to learn how to create sewing patterns to your own specific measurements?

During this 10 week course you will learn how to draft your own pattern blocks and how to manipulate them to create stylish garment.

Week by Week we will cover:

  • Accurate measuring

  • Drafting a skirt, bodice and sleeve block

  • how to turn your blocks into patterns

  • Making a toile and fitting techniques

  • Manipulating block patterns to your own style

Know Your Machines

Do you have a lovely sewing machine or overlocker with loads of functions that are just mind blowing and a little confusing?

Let me show you how to get to grips with what your machines can do and unlock the potential they have to make your sewing journey much more fun and satisfying.

Together, we can demystify your machine and increase your confidence with it.

In this class you’ll have the opportunity to:-

  • learn about the different machine feet and what they are used for

  • learn about the different stitches and what they are used for

  • and lots more tips along the way!

You will need to bring your machine with you. along with all the accessories and instruction manual.

Use of all other equipment is included as well as all the tea/coffee you can drink!

Asian Dressmaking

Do you need a bit of help making you own traditional Asian Garments, or do you have something you need to alter?

Raminder has been making traditional Asian clothing for 40 years and would love to pass on her knowledge and skill to you.

In the Asian Dressmaking Sewcial you can bring along your own projects and get some support and guidance to make or alter them to a high standard.

You can come along for one Sewcial or more if you prefer. Meet other enthusiastic sewists and inspire each other to make and create beautiful things.

Sewcials are suitable for any ability, but you will need to be able to use a sewing machine.
